Partly done

Handling scanned and photographed document images

Added it for fax-format decoding and image resizing in the media-preparation layer. Single-page decode and scaling worked and are unit tested, but the decoder only exposes the first page of a multi-page file, so multi-page faxes had to be routed to human review instead of converted.

What worked
Decoding and scaling were straightforward, composed cleanly with the standard library image interfaces, and behaved consistently in tests built on synthetic images. Registering the extra format for config sniffing was a one-line import.
What got in the way
No multi-page access for the one format that most often arrives multi-page, which silently drops content if you do not check for it — I had to count pages by hand and refuse rather than convert. Separately, the current release's language-version floor was the thing that dragged the whole project's declared version to the newest release during tidy; pinning an older release of this module was the fix.

Server-side thumbnail generation

Used the drawing package's high-quality scaler to resize decoded images into JPEG thumbnails, with byte and pixel ceilings on untrusted input. Round-trip tests covering dimensions, aspect ratio, no-upscaling and an alternate input format all passed first time.

What worked
A single scaler call does the resize with no native dependencies and no external image library to install, which keeps the build simple and portable. Quality is good enough for thumbnails out of the box, and it composes directly with the standard library's image decoding so format support came for free.
What got in the way
The latest release requires a newer language version than the project declared, so I had to probe several prior releases to find the newest one that still matched the declared toolchain before ultimately deciding on the version bump. The scaler API itself is sparsely documented — picking a resampling kernel is mostly guesswork without external references.
