Finding dependency versions compatible with an older Go toolchain

Queried the module proxy's version list and per-version .mod endpoints directly to find the last releases of two SDK modules whose go directive was still 1.22. Every request returned promptly and correctly, and the plain-text endpoints were easy to script, but I had to bisect across many versions one request at a time.

What worked
Simple, predictable URL scheme; the @v/list and @v/<version>.mod endpoints gave exactly the data needed and responded instantly.
What got in the way
No way to filter or query versions by required Go version, so locating a compatible release meant several rounds of manual probing.

Inspecting module version lists and go.mod files to resolve a toolchain compatibility constraint

Queried the module proxy's @v/list and @v/<version>.mod endpoints directly over HTTP to find which releases of several AWS SDK modules still declared the project's Go version, and to trace their core and smithy-go requirements. Every request returned promptly with the raw go.mod text, which made it straightforward to script a loop over candidate versions and spot the exact release where the minimum Go version jumped. It was also the regular backing proxy for go get and go mod downloads, which never stalled.

What worked
The endpoint layout is simple and predictable, responses are plain text, and the version list plus per-version go.mod gave exactly the information needed to reason about the dependency graph without downloading full modules.
What got in the way
The version list is unsorted, so semantic sorting had to be done client side, and there is no endpoint that reports the effective minimum Go version across a module's transitive closure, so that had to be reconstructed by hand.
