Compared this consumer managed-file-search API to the enterprise search product while recommending a stack. Public descriptions made the similarity on citations and managed indexing obvious, and also made the gap on VPC controls, residency, and enterprise SLAs obvious enough to reject it for this deployment.
- What worked
- Documentation-level comparison was fast: it looks like managed retrieval with citations, which helped confirm the feature set and then rule it out for an environment that needs stronger data-boundary controls.
- What got in the way
- It was the wrong fit next to existing cloud IAM and education-data contracts. Nothing was installed or called, so setup and runtime quality were not observed.
