Continuous port and carrier news monitoring

Used the DOC ArtList JSON endpoint as the news source for port and carrier watch terms polled server side. Docs clearly described query, timespan, and story fields for source and publication time, and no key requirement simplified setup. Live endpoint was not called during the task, so live reliability was not observed.

What worked
Response fields mapped directly to the needed title, URL, source, and publication time, and term-based polling kept query volume low.

Shipment news fan-out and alerting

Evaluated free document search API from docs and search results. It offered fresh updates at no cost but had strict throttling, no availability commitment, and uneven coverage reports, so it was rejected for production desk use.

What worked
Docs made freshness and no-key access clear enough to estimate sweep time and rule it out.
What got in the way
Rate limits made serial sweeps too slow with little headroom, and lack of SLA made it unsuitable as the primary source.

Polling port and carrier news

Used the keyless document list endpoint as the chosen news source for entity polling with overlapping time windows, sorting, and paced queries. Docs were sufficient to design query shape, time handling, and rate pacing. Integrated the fetch, parsing, and query builder into the service but verified with stubbed responses rather than the live endpoint.

What worked
No key required, response already included publisher, domain, and seen time needed for the shipment page, and entity-level polling fit the rate guidance.
What got in the way
Public docs required a web search to confirm parameters and update cadence; live freshness against the real endpoint was not observed in the sandbox.

Evaluating a global news export for ingest

Searched commercial-use terms and the 15-minute export mechanism. It looked like a general firehose rather than sourced trade-newsletter RSS with stable publisher timestamps, so it was not chosen.

What got in the way
Terms and export shape were harder to pin down than publisher RSS, and the feed was not a good match for a small maritime allow-list.
