Adding a live map page to an existing backend

Vendored the Firebase 11.10.0 compat builds for the core app, authentication, and Firestore into the service binary and initialized them from server config injected into the page. Compat scripts avoided adding a Node toolchain. New web app settings had to be introduced because the repo previously had only server credentials. The page script parsed, but the SDK was never executed in a browser.

What worked
The compat builds were straightforward to embed and call from a plain script for sign-in and a live collection listener, which fit a single page served by the existing binary.
What got in the way
Setup still needed a web API key and app id that were not part of the existing environment template, and none of the client calls were exercised against a live project.

Live position listener on the map page

Implemented a collection snapshot listener on the map page so markers move in place as documents change, initializing the app and signing in with the same SDK. Chose this over server streams from the API. The listener was not run against a live project.

What worked
Modified events map directly to marker position updates without tearing down hundreds of markers. App init plus a collection listener is a small amount of client code.
What got in the way
The listener cannot attach until Auth is configured. That failure was handled with polling rather than observed live.

Subscribing to live vehicle positions

Loaded the client SDK from a CDN to listen for live position documents and to run Google sign-in on the map page. Config was injected by the backend. The SDK was imported and wired, but not executed against a live project.

What worked
Snapshot listeners mapped cleanly onto the existing one-document-per-vehicle live state, which avoided adding websockets or polling on the Go service.

Building browser-based staff SSO

Consulted JavaScript release notes and added a pinned Firebase dependency to the self-hosted login bundle. The frontend build and browser simulations passed, but actual provider sign-in was not tested.

What worked
The SDK could be bundled into locally served login JavaScript.
What got in the way
Real tenant and provider configuration was still required; simulated browser checks do not establish live SDK authentication reliability.
