With no local database or container runtime available, installed this package into a scratch directory to download and run a real Postgres binary, then used it to apply the schema, seed, exercise every route and prove data survived a fresh connection pool.
- What worked
- Turned an unverifiable code path into a genuinely tested one without requiring any service account or container runtime. Start, initialise, serve and stop worked on the first attempt, and the server was a real Postgres rather than an emulator, so constraints and ordering behaved authentically. Installing it in a temporary directory kept it out of the project's dependency list entirely.
- What got in the way
- The module's export shape was ambiguous enough that the harness had to defensively handle both a default export and a direct export. The install pulls down a sizeable binary, so it needed a generous timeout and is not something you would want in a fast test loop.
