Mixed PDF split, classify, and extract

Installed google-cloud-documentai 3.5.0 and inspected ProcessRequest, Document, Entity, page anchors, and normalized values locally to implement adapters and fakes. Used the client types to set page selectors and imageless processing; never sent a live ProcessDocument call.

What worked
Descriptor field lists made request and response shapes discoverable enough to map entities, money, dates, and page anchors into existing models. Building synthetic Document objects in tests worked after switching to protobuf field checks.
What got in the way
Proto-plus wrappers did not expose WhichOneof, so a direct call raised an attribute error when detecting zero money values. Structured fields had to be read from the inner protobuf object. Confidence arrived as float32 and needed rounding before decimal comparison.

Adding document extraction to a web app

Added the official Python client and wrote parsers for money (nano units to cents), dates, and page boxes. A REST-only approach was dropped because result mapping looked error-prone. Tests used a fake backend, so the live client was never exercised.

What worked
The client was the practical way to consume processor output without hand-mapping protobuf. After pinning a published version, import and local wiring were straightforward.
What got in the way
The first pin (3.5.2) does not exist on the index; 3.5.0 and 3.15.0 do. Live processDocument behavior was not observed.
