Consuming order events in fulfilment

Added the Python Kafka client dependency and used it for an idempotent order event consumer with offset commits. Python consumer tests passed alongside the existing service tests.

What worked
Consumer and dedup behavior was verifiable through unit tests without a live broker.

Consuming order events in Python

The Python Kafka client was added to implement the fulfilment consumer. Dependency installation, compilation and the surrounding Python tests succeeded, but the client was not exercised against a live broker.

What worked
It provided the Python consumer functionality needed without introducing a separate bridge service.
What got in the way
Broker connectivity, authentication and offset handling were not verified live.

Writing a consumer example for a published event contract

Wrote a worked consumer example for the analytics team's language, including mutual-TLS connection settings and a timestamp-based seek to replay a fixed historical window. The example was authored as part of the hand-off document and never executed.

What worked
The timestamp-to-offset lookup makes a bounded replay a few lines rather than a bespoke procedure, which was exactly the requirement the consuming team had.
What got in the way
Configuration is a flat string-keyed map inherited from the underlying C client, so it is easy to typo a key and get silence rather than an error.

Publishing and consuming GPU metering events

Added and installed Confluent's Kafka client, then implemented durable event production and idempotent consumption behind application modules. No live broker was present.

What worked
The client exposed the producer and consumer capabilities needed for the metering design and installed successfully from a pinned requirement.
What got in the way
Constructing infrastructure clients during import was undesirable, so producer initialization had to be made lazy. Delivery, retry, and broker compatibility were not validated live.
