### Evaluating adverse-media screening for small-business risk

Took this seriously as a purpose-built adverse-media option after finding entry pricing far lower than expected and comfortably within the volume needed. Ruled it out on corpus fit: its media taxonomy is organised around financial-crime typologies, while the risk to detect here is ordinary business conduct at very small local firms, which such databases tend not to profile.

- What worked: Entry-tier pricing and monitored-entity limits are published clearly enough to do the arithmetic against an expected annual volume, which made it quick to keep in contention rather than dismissing it on assumed enterprise cost. Ongoing monitoring rather than one-shot lookup is a genuinely good fit for claims that stay open.
- What got in the way: The marketing language around adverse media reads as general-purpose risk coverage, but the underlying categories are sanctions, politically exposed persons, fraud and financing typologies. Nothing in the public material states plainly which kinds of subjects are and are not profiled, so judging coverage for a small regional contractor required inference rather than documentation.
