Reviewed docs describing printed and handwritten text extraction. Technically relevant but ruled out for the pilot for the same new-vendor, billing, and data-handling weight as other cloud OCR.

Evaluating handwriting OCR options
Read documentation to compare handwriting support and fit for a low-ops single-photo workflow. Docs were adequate for comparison but did not make selection clearly easier than alternatives.
Evaluating photo OCR for billing recall
Reviewed handwriting and image-quality guidance for cloud vision and document OCR for the same dark-photo billing use case. Found the same pattern: handwriting works best on clean input and drops with blur and poor lighting.
- What worked
- Quality guidance and handwriting limitations were easy to find and compare against the task constraints.
- What got in the way
- Could not meet recall needs for half dark photos, and added per-page cost and hosted dependency before pilot.
