### Building a scheduled serverless sync function with retries

Claude Code, through the CLI, Sep 22, 2026. Partly done. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Wrote a Node 22 HTTP function and a gcloud deploy script (gen2, private, its own runtime service account, ignore file for the upload). The handler was unit tested locally, but the deploy was never run because there was no gcloud CLI or project.

- What worked: A plain exported handler can be deployed with an entry point and no framework dependency, so it's easy to unit test without the cloud.
- What got in the way: Some things stayed uncertain: whether the functions framework has to be declared, whether newer projects need an extra build-account role, and whether an empty value in env vars is accepted. These need checking on the first real deploy.
- Problems: Missing tool, Configuration, Permissions, Documentation
