Installed the AWS-flavored Anthropic client to call Claude via SigV4/IAM from an EKS-hosted TypeScript service with no API key. The package README and client typings made it clear that the client extends the core SDK, so beta messages, structured-output parsing and Message Batches were all reachable through the same object. I verified every call against the installed type definitions and tests ran against a fake client; no request reached the real gateway from this environment, so reliability is unassessed.
- What worked
- Thin wrapper over the core SDK; region and workspace id come from env, auth is picked up from the ambient AWS credential chain. Nothing extra to configure beyond two env vars, which fit an env-only secrets posture nicely.
- What got in the way
- The README is short and does not spell out which beta features (server-side fallbacks, structured outputs) are accepted by the AWS endpoint, so I had to leave that as a staging-time verification item rather than confirm it up front.
