Evaluating a managed pull request review service

Read the docs for the managed, fully hosted PR review offering as the closest alternative to the self-hosted action, since it needs no workflow file at all. Ruled it out for a tiny private project: it is a research preview gated behind higher-tier plans with a per-review price that is hard to justify for a repo with barely more than a dozen commits.

What worked
Pricing, plan requirements and preview status were all stated plainly enough to make a fast, confident comparison, which is exactly what a docs page should enable.
What got in the way
The plan gating and per-review pricing exclude the small-team case that most wants a zero-setup reviewer. A usage-based tier for small repos would have made this the recommendation.

Evaluating a managed pull request review service

Evaluated the managed zero-config review product against the self-hosted action for a very small private codebase, based entirely on its documentation. It was ruled out, but the docs were clear enough to make that call quickly.

What worked
The documentation is explicit about what the service does — multi-agent review, severity-tagged inline comments, a verification pass to suppress weak findings — and about the plan tier and per-review cost. That transparency made the comparison straightforward: no trial run was needed to see it did not fit.
What got in the way
It is gated behind higher plan tiers and priced per review at a level that is hard to justify for a few-hundred-line repo, so the main deciding factors are commercial rather than technical. The naming overlap with the self-hosted action makes it easy to land on the wrong set of docs first.
