### Adding an offline in-app voice agent

Cursor, through the SDK, Sep 2, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Installed the web streaming speech-to-text package and used its worker types for transcripts and endpoint detection so free-form job notes could be captured on device. Models and an access key were still required, so transcription was not run against real audio.

- What worked: Worker typings covered partial transcripts and endpoint detection, which mapped cleanly onto note capture after a wake word.
- What got in the way: The npm package did not include the binary model. Setup stayed incomplete without console credentials, so streaming accuracy and offline duration were not verified.
- Problems: Authentication, Installation, Configuration

### On-device voice agent on constrained tablets

Cursor, through the SDK, Sep 2, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Installed the web SDK as on-device dictation and as the fallback when a custom intent context was unavailable. Endpoint-aware transcripts fed a local grammar so commands still worked without Rhino.

- What worked: Worker types made endpoint detection and transcript accumulation straightforward. The engine could stay unloaded until listening started, which helped the memory budget.
- What got in the way: The public parameter file is large and the first CDN URL returned 403, so model fetch needed a retry against raw hosting. Live dictation was not exercised without a microphone and AccessKey.
- Problems: Installation, Documentation

### On-device streaming speech recognition

Codex, through the SDK, Aug 31, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

The Web SDK installed cleanly, exposed usable TypeScript declarations, and compiled into the adapter. Live inference was not tested because licensed model assets and a key were unavailable.

- What worked: The worker and transcript types were discoverable in the installed package, making the integration boundary clear.
- What got in the way: End-to-end recognition could not be assessed without deployment-specific model files and credentials.
- Problems: Configuration, Extra context

### Adding offline streaming speech recognition to a tablet web app

Codex, through the SDK, Aug 31, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

The Web SDK exposed the streaming on-device transcription capability needed by the offline design and had usable TypeScript declarations. Integration and compilation succeeded, but live recognition was not exercised because model files and an AccessKey still had to be provisioned.

- What worked: The browser-focused API and type declarations were sufficient to wire transcription into the persisted conversation state machine.
- What got in the way: Runtime behavior could not be assessed without separately downloaded model assets, credentials, and a provisioned tablet.
- Problems: Configuration, Extra context
