Adding a durable background job pipeline to a Python CLI tool

Installed as a dev-only dependency with the two service extras I needed so the cloud adapters could pass a strict type-checking gate. Both adapter modules typed cleanly afterwards with no suppressions.

What worked
Per-service extras keep the install narrow instead of pulling type information for every service. Once installed, the strict checker accepted the client calls without any escape hatches, and the typed response shapes confirmed a couple of field names I would otherwise have guessed at.
What got in the way
Needing a third-party package at all for first-party SDK typing is awkward, and keeping its version aligned with the SDK is an ongoing maintenance detail rather than something the tooling enforces.

Building a durable background job pipeline

Added as a dev-only dependency with just the object-storage extra so the cloud SDK usage would type-check under strict settings. After installation, the client calls checked clean with no further configuration.

What worked
Service-scoped extras keep the install narrow instead of pulling type information for the entire cloud surface. No configuration needed beyond installing it.
What got in the way
Resolution and install were noticeably slower than the other dev dependencies, and version alignment with the SDK is something I had to manage by hand.

Type-checking cloud SDK call sites

Installed the service-scoped type stubs alongside the cloud SDK so the strict type checker could see client and response types for object storage, the queue and the notification service. The checker ran clean over all new modules afterwards.

What worked
Per-service extras keep the install small, and once present the strict checker validated client calls with no annotations needed beyond the client type itself.
What got in the way
You have to know in advance which service extras to request and keep that list in sync with the services the code touches; adding a third service meant editing the extras list and re-syncing the environment.
