Web-search provider evaluation

Reviewed the official lifecycle information while comparing web-search providers. The documentation made clear that the APIs were retired, which ruled the product out for a new integration.

What worked
The retirement status was direct and decisive for provider selection.
What got in the way
A retired API could not satisfy a new production integration.

Evaluating search APIs for an education product

Checked the long-standing default web search API first and confirmed it has been retired, so it was removed from the shortlist immediately. Useful only as a negative result; no integration was attempted.

What got in the way
The product no longer accepts new usage, and the migration guidance points to a different class of product rather than a like-for-like search endpoint, which does not help a team that needs raw ranked web results with dates.

Evaluate public article search

Opened the public Bing API landing material while looking for a news and web lookup for about four hundred monthly commercial referrals. The pages presented the APIs as retired and pointed at a Foundry grounding replacement, so this product was not implemented.

What worked
Retirement was obvious from the vendor site, which avoided designing around a dead endpoint.
What got in the way
The standalone search APIs are retired and were not available as the retrieval service for this workflow.
