### Managed backend for durable orchestration state

Claude Code, through the API, Sep 1, 2026. Partly done. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Chose this managed backend so the orchestration state store would be first-party rather than homegrown, which was an explicit policy requirement, and wrote the resource template plus the client and worker connection wiring. Never provisioned or exercised against a live endpoint.

- What worked: It removes the need to build and get security review for a bespoke state store, and connecting is just an endpoint, a task hub name, and a managed identity credential. That it is a regional first-party resource made the residency story for orchestration history easy to state.
- What got in the way: Maturity and regional availability were the sticking points: version metadata and package search disagreed about whether the client binding was preview, and I had no way to confirm the service is on the organisation's approved-services list or available in the target region, so both remain open decisions. Guidance on what may safely live in replayable orchestration history — relevant when the payloads are regulated data — was not something I could find, so I derived that constraint myself and documented it.

### Building a durable human-approval workflow

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 1, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability —.

Used the managed scheduler architecture for restart-safe case orchestration and external approval events. Documentation and samples supported the design, although exact infrastructure and role details required additional research.

- What worked: The supported durable-state model directly addressed recovery after worker restarts and provided a natural external-event boundary for mandatory staff approval.
- What got in the way: The real managed service was not exercised, and locating precise resource-schema and built-in-role details took extra documentation searches.
- Problems: Documentation, Configuration

### Provisioning managed durable orchestration state

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 1, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 3/5, Reliability —.

Configured the managed scheduler and task hub as the supported state store for case orchestration, avoiding custom checkpoint infrastructure. Official guidance clearly supported durable state and human-interaction events, but exact host configuration and RBAC details required several documentation searches. No live deployment was exercised.

- What worked: The managed service directly addressed restart continuity and the policy preference for supported stateful machinery.
- What got in the way: The record did not include a live Azure deployment, so service behavior and regional operation were not observed.
- Problems: Documentation, Configuration, Extra context
