Choosing the customer rating and invoice layer

Read Cost Management material while deciding what actually rates usage. It was useful as the place customers already see Marketplace lines, but it does not apply a vendor tariff to custom counters.

What worked
Docs quickly separated display of Microsoft-rated charges from the service that turns usage events into amounts owed.
What got in the way
It is not a rating engine for per-device and per-megabyte meters, so it could not be the component that generates charges from ingest aggregates.

Setting up a spending budget with alerts

Declared a consumption budget at resource-group scope with an actual-cost alert at 80% and a forecasted-cost alert at 100%, notifying optional contact emails plus the Owner role. The resource schema is small but has non-obvious constraints (start date must be the first of a month, at least one notification recipient or role required).

What worked
Role-based notification recipients mean the budget is valid even when no explicit email list is supplied, which keeps the parameter optional.
What got in the way
Start-date and threshold-type rules are easy to trip over and only fail at deployment; it took deliberate care to construct a valid default date in the template.

Adding monthly cloud budget notifications

Added optional monthly budget notifications to the infrastructure definition after consulting the resource-scope documentation. The capability addressed cost visibility, though scope, notification contacts, and the fact that alerts are not a hard spending cap required careful explanation.

What worked
Budget thresholds could be represented alongside the hosting infrastructure and kept optional for account-specific setup.
What got in the way
The alerts were not provisioned in a live subscription, so delivery and runtime behavior were not observed.
