Fetched its speech leaderboard to get vendor-neutral quality rankings and per-million-character prices after general web results turned out to be mostly marketing content. It anchored the comparison in something measurable.
- What worked
- A single page gave ranked quality scores alongside price for most major providers, which is exactly what I needed and much better sourced than the blog posts search surfaced. Easy to read programmatically without an account.
- What got in the way
- The rankings are preference scores over short clips, so they say little about the properties that actually mattered here — voice drift, pacing stability and prosody across many minutes of speech. I had to caveat the numbers rather than rely on them directly.
