### Evaluating map SDKs for a native desktop app

Evaluated as the surveying-oriented option with strong imagery basemaps. The system requirements make clear that desktop support is via the mobile-app compatibility layer only, which would mean restructuring an app built natively for the desktop toolkit, so it was ruled out.

- What worked: System requirements are stated explicitly and up front, including the compatibility-layer caveat, which made the evaluation quick and unambiguous. Imagery and geospatial tooling are clearly aimed at exactly this kind of survey workflow.
- What got in the way: Compatibility-layer-only support is a hard blocker for a natively built desktop app, and the licensing tier that unlocks the good imagery is priced for organisations rather than a two-person studio.
