Adding prefix and filtered search to an existing service

Reviewed existing producer usage and topic layout to decide whether search needed a new consumer. Concluded no consumer change was needed for the chosen prefix and per-item listing approach.

What worked
Existing architecture notes made it clear where event flow ended and read-model search began.

Partly done

Processing async order events

Implemented an at-least-once consumer for order-created events using a Kafka client library, with manual offset commits only after send, duplicate, or invalid outcomes. Logic was unit tested, but never ran against a real broker.

What worked
Consumer group, manual commit, and shutdown patterns were simple to express and matched existing service patterns.
What got in the way
Rebalance, retry, and ordering behavior against a live topic were not observed.

Checkout analytics event ingestion

Used the existing idempotent producer wrapper to add completed and rejected checkout result events on a new results topic, keeping sends best-effort so request status codes never change on sink failure.

What worked
Existing producer abstraction made the new event type a small additive change with clear keying and headers.

Consuming order events asynchronously

Used existing order-created topic as the trigger so checkout stays non-blocking. Implemented consumer group handling with keyed events and redelivery tolerance. No live broker was available, so end-to-end consumption remains unverified.

What worked
Existing keyed event already carried recipient and totals, so no checkout changes or callbacks were needed.
What got in the way
Live rebalance, redelivery, and latency impact could not be observed without a broker.
