### Running a Java API test suite

Downloaded and unpacked a version 17 JDK distribution to provide the runtime the project needed, then pointed the build at it. Version checks and subsequent test runs worked without runtime issues.

- What worked: Runtime was stable for compilation and the full test suite once environment variables were set.
- What got in the way: Initial launch using a home-directory shorthand in the path did not resolve, requiring absolute paths.
