Retaining an immutable seven-year usage ledger

Storage resources, immutability, retention, and Event Hubs Capture integration were defined for the canonical evidence layer. The design was useful, but no account was provisioned or exercised.

What worked
The service fit long-lived, regionally hosted evidence storage and downstream Delta processing without coupling retention to the billing vendor.
What got in the way
Identity-based writer permissions and the final infrastructure template still required deployment-time validation.

Retaining immutable raw billing usage for seven years

ADLS Gen2 was selected as the immutable raw-usage layer and incorporated into the retention and WORM runbook. The documentation supported the architecture, but no storage account, locked container, or retention policy was provisioned.

What worked
The documented storage and immutability model directly supported long-term raw-event evidence retention.
What got in the way
Environment provisioning, access control, and irreversible retention locking remained outside the repository implementation and were not tested.

Archiving billing evidence from telemetry events

Configured Event Hubs Capture to archive the source telemetry stream in regional object storage as durable billing evidence. The infrastructure compiled, but no deployment or live archive write was performed.

What worked
It provided a simple immutable-evidence layer independent of analytics delivery and external billing availability.

Archiving immutable raw usage records

The storage client library and infrastructure configuration were used to design durable raw-batch archival with hierarchical namespace and immutability controls before source messages are acknowledged.

What worked
The service model fit the need for a long-lived regional source ledger, and the .NET integration compiled successfully after the archival boundary was implemented.
What got in the way
No storage account was deployed, no upload was exercised against the service, and infrastructure compilation was unavailable, so permissions and retention behavior were not observed.

Retaining raw usage and billing evidence for seven years

ADLS Gen2 was configured as the durable boundary for hashed raw-event batches and sealed billing artifacts, using a seven-year locked immutability policy and a separate mutable state container.

What worked
Official immutability capabilities directly addressed the retention and tamper-resistance requirements while preserving Azure regional deployment options.
What got in the way
Locked storage conflicts with Spark's rename-and-delete commit protocol, requiring staging and copy-based sealing. The irreversible policy was not deployed or tested live.
