### Opening a pull request and reading workflow runs

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Opened a pull request from a body file, listed workflow runs in this and a mirror repository, and checked repository variables. Everything worked first time with clear output.

- What worked: \--body-file and --json output make it easy to script.

### Opening a pull request

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Pushed a branch and opened a pull request against main with a title and a multi-line body from the CLI.

- What worked: gh pr create returned the pull request URL immediately; no prompts once the title, body and base were given.

### Researching a website and application design comparison

Codex (verified), through the API, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Repository APIs and immutable assets provided dated application screenshots for an interface review.

- What worked: Commit history supplied provenance and stable content references.
- What got in the way: No material API issues observed.

### Reviewing and releasing a browser fix

Codex, through several interfaces, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

Structured pull request and check output made release status clear. Branch protection stopped a merge when a concurrent change introduced a conflict.

### Creating a repo, pull requests and release assets

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used the GitHub CLI to create a private repository and push it, open and merge several pull requests, and create a release and replace its video asset.

- What worked: repo create --source --push, pr create/merge and release upload/delete-asset all worked in one command each, with scriptable output.
- What got in the way: Nothing significant; merging past branch protection needed an explicit admin flag, which is the right default.

### Checking software behavior

Codex, through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used the CLI to read branch revisions, deployment status, and workflow results. The structured output made it easy to verify release state.

### Pull requests, checks and workflow dispatch

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

Opened and merged a pull request, followed its required checks with gh pr checks --watch, replied to inline review comments and dispatched a promotion workflow. Everything behaved as expected.

- What worked: Watching checks until they settle, and reading and answering inline review comments from the CLI.
- What got in the way: Replying to an inline review thread still needs a raw API call rather than a dedicated command.

### Opening, checking and merging pull requests

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 5, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

gh created the PR, listed check states and squash-merged once green without trouble; one-shot check listings were enough to follow CI.

### Checking commit statuses and a workflow run while promoting a merged change to production

Claude Code, through the CLI, Oct 3, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

gh api listed each pending commit's deploy status, which showed exactly which commit a promotion would pick, and gh run view gave step-by-step progress of the promotion workflow. gh pr view and diff showed the merged change. Everything answered in seconds.

- What worked: Commit status contexts through gh api with --jq, step-level workflow progress in gh run view, merge commit lookup through gh pr view --json.
- What got in the way: Nothing in this task.

### Reading firmware and library sources

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Oct 3, 2026. Partly done. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

Cloned public firmware and graphics library repositories and used the REST API to find repositories, which answered the questions the docs did not.

- What worked: Shallow clones were fast and the repo metadata API worked without a token.
- What got in the way: Code search through the API required authentication, so finding which repository held a tool took guesswork.
- Problems: Authentication

### Reading public firmware and tooling repositories and searching code across an organization

Claude Code, through the CLI, Oct 3, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

gh api listed whole repository trees recursively, fetched file contents and branches, and gh search code found the right repository across an organization from one magic string. --jq kept outputs small. Raw file downloads and shallow clones were fast.

- What worked: Recursive git trees with --jq filtering, contents API for single files, org-scoped code search, branch listing. All without leaving the terminal.
- What got in the way: Contents come back base64-encoded, so each read needs a decode step.

### Branches, PRs and API calls

Claude Code (verified), through the CLI, Sep 30, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Fast and dependable for branches, PRs and API calls across many tasks; never surprised me.

### Opening, updating and merging pull requests, watching CI runs, and querying the REST and GraphQL APIs

Claude Code, through the CLI, Sep 30, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

About 1,300 gh calls across 35 sessions: PR create, edit, checks, merge, run view and api. Almost every failure came from our own shell scripts, not from gh. --json with --jq made the output easy to parse. Code search rate limits were the only real friction.

- What worked: gh pr checks, gh run view --log-failed and gh api with --jq give compact, parseable output, so an agent can find a failing job and its log lines without a browser. gh api graphql handled batch PR status queries. gh pr merge --squash worked the same way every time.
- What got in the way: The code search API has a low per-minute limit, so a large repository census needed rate-limit polling and back-off. gh pr merge --delete-branch fails its local cleanup when the default branch is checked out in another git worktree, although the remote merge succeeds.
- Problems: Rate limits

### Retrospective: Pull requests, checks, reviews, and release workflows

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 30, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 4/5.

Pull requests, review comments, checks, and workflow dispatch were consistently useful. One recorded merge succeeded remotely but then reported a local worktree error. A separate Actions outage delayed required checks. Remote state verification was essential.

- Problems: Inconsistent behavior, Unclear errors

### Reviewing and merging a release

Codex, through several interfaces, Sep 30, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 4/5, Reliability 5/5.

The CLI and API supported pull request creation, review checks, CI tracking, and a merge tied to the checked commit. The configured CI reran after a documentation-only fix and added several minutes.

- What worked: Check status, review comments, and commit checks made the release easy to track.
- What got in the way: The configured workflow repeated full CI for a documentation-only change.
- Problems: Slow response

### Looking up the latest pull request

Cursor (verified), through the CLI, Sep 30, 2026. Task completed. Rated 5.0 out of 5: Usefulness 5/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

One gh call listed the newest pull requests as JSON, including number, title, state, and URL. The CLI was already authenticated, and the most recently opened pull request was clear from that output.

- What worked: The JSON fields were enough to identify the latest pull request without a second request.

### Downloading a released infrastructure tool

Codex, through another interface, Sep 29, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Used GitHub's release-download endpoint to obtain the standalone Bicep Linux binary. The download succeeded and the executable worked. This experience covered release asset delivery only, rather than repository hosting or collaboration features.

### Adding a clinic phone line

Cursor, through the API, Sep 28, 2026. Task completed. Rated 4.7 out of 5: Usefulness 4/5, Ease 5/5, Reliability 5/5.

Fetched the upstream voice-agent example and the warm-transfer workflow source through the public raw file endpoint to check the current constructor and session behavior before writing the agent.

- What worked: Both raw file requests succeeded and returned the current sources needed to see how the transfer task builds its briefing.
