Crawling supplier product pages

Installed the all-in-one package and then its Playwright-specific package for supplier crawling. Jest failed while loading an ESM-only transitive module under the CommonJS project, and a production audit exposed an unresolved transitive advisory, so Crawlee was removed.

What worked
Its crawler abstraction initially matched the need for browser fallbacks and request handling.
What got in the way
The package graph collided with the repository's Jest/CommonJS setup and added a vulnerable transitive JSON-streaming dependency, making direct Playwright the safer fit.

Crawling static and browser-rendered supplier catalogue pages

Crawlee provided HTTP and Playwright crawler modes, retries, sessions, concurrency controls, and proxy support for the mixed supplier set. The implementation built and its tests passed, but one browser route callback needed an explicit type and the installed dependency tree reported unresolved moderate advisories.

What worked
A single library supported both lightweight and real-browser extraction while allowing supplier-specific throttling, retry, and session behavior.
What got in the way
A callback parameter was inferred as any and required manual annotation. The dependency audit reported 13 moderate transitive advisories with no available fix for at least one affected package.

Paced multi-supplier crawl worker

Added Crawlee 3.12.2 to drive Playwright fetches, per-supplier pacing, and request failure handling in a standalone worker. It compiled after the rest of the TypeScript fixes, but failed-request typing needed extra care and the crawler never ran against live pages.

What worked
It gave a single place to queue catalogue URLs, attach storage, and keep browser work off the web process.
What got in the way
Failed-request handler types were unclear while wiring the crawler, and without a live run there was no check of queue, retry, or storage behavior.

Extracting JavaScript-rendered catalogue pages

Crawlee supplied the browser-crawling layer for the configurable Actor. The implementation compiled and its parser tests passed, but no supplier site was available for a live crawl. An audit reported one transitive moderate advisory without an upstream fix.

What worked
It supported browser-based crawling and supplier-specific selector configuration in TypeScript.
What got in the way
Real-site behavior and anti-bot handling were not tested; a transitive audit warning remained.

Refreshing static and browser-rendered supplier catalogue pages

Implemented Cheerio and Playwright crawlers with retries, proxy configuration, and terminal failure observations. The focused packages ultimately worked, but the umbrella package pulled in ESM and dynamic-import paths that broke Jest.

What worked
The crawler abstractions supported static pages, browser pages, proxy sessions, missing pages, retries, and failed-request handling in one design.
What got in the way
The umbrella package caused module-loading failures under the existing test runtime. Splitting the integration into focused Crawlee packages and extracting parsing logic was necessary.

Browser-based catalogue page extraction

Crawlee provided the crawler layer for a configurable catalogue Actor and installed successfully. Syntax and dependency checks passed, but no real supplier crawl was executed, so runtime reliability was not assessed.

What worked
Its browser-crawling model fit configurable product URLs and selectors without hard-coding supplier details in the application.
What got in the way
The dependency audit reported moderate transitive advisories with no upstream fix available at the time.
