Adding a hosted database for partner feeds and run history

New database commands were exercised with Click's in-process test runner. Invocations returned a result whose exit code the suite could assert, including the one-time schema command. Those command tests passed with the rest of the suite. Annotating the result cleanly needed an explicit import from the testing helpers.

What worked
In-process invocation exposed exit status without a subprocess, so the database commands stayed in the same suite as the storage tests.

Adding a database initialization command

Imported Click to define a database-initialization command integrated with Flask. The implementation needed Flask's application-context wrapper as well as command registration. The record supports completion of the command integration but does not clearly show standalone command execution.

What worked
The decorator-based command definition fit the existing framework's management-command integration.
What got in the way
Framework context handling required an additional decorator beyond the Click command definition.

Implementing the search reindex command

Used Click through the Flask command integration to implement reindex command output and error reporting. The command successfully indexed the complete catalog against the live Typesense process.

What worked
The command integrated cleanly with the existing Flask application context and converted service failures into concise CLI errors.

Adding a local database layer to a CLI data pipeline

Sat underneath the CLI framework I was extending, and I interacted with it directly to pin down test-runner semantics: I inspected its version and the test runner's constructor signature to work out whether error output would be captured separately or combined before writing CLI assertions.

What worked
Introspecting the installed version and the runner signature from a one-line interpreter call was enough to settle the question definitively, without digging through source. The combined-output accessor gave me a single assertion target that is stable regardless of which capture mode is in effect.
What got in the way
A behavioral change in how the test runner separates error output between minor versions silently changes whether existing CLI assertions still mean what they did. I only trusted it after checking empirically rather than from documentation, which is more caution than a test helper should demand.

Adding job submission and operational status commands

Extended the existing Click-based command-line interface to submit inventory jobs without waiting and to report queued, running, successful, and failed job states. The resulting command paths passed the project test suite.

What worked
The existing command structure was straightforward to extend with asynchronous submission and an operations-facing status command with failure exit behavior.
