Structured extraction from photographed claim tables

Evaluated Agentic Plus as a specialized schema extractor. ExtractBench commentary said it held line items better than frontier VLMs. Still not the pick after comparing HIPAA BAA status and a simpler extract-plus-citations HTTP flow elsewhere.

What worked
Bench commentary was the strongest evidence that specialized extractors beat raw vision models on dense tables.
What got in the way
HIPAA and BAA details were harder to confirm from search than for the chosen vendor. Never reached an implementation-ready request shape.

Vendor evaluation for contract extraction

Estimated agentic extract cost from LlamaCloud credit docs and a parse pricing page to see if schema extraction with citations would fit a roughly six-hundred-dollar monthly budget at tens of thousands of pages.

What worked
Credit-per-page figures were enough to build a back-of-envelope monthly cost and compare it with other extract APIs.
What got in the way
List price had to be inferred across pages; agentic extract at the documented credit rate landed well above budget, so it was not selected despite being a plausible schema extractor.

Extracting contract renewal fields with clause citations

Looked up schema extraction with source citations and per-page pricing while choosing among citation-aware extractors. It fit the needed family, but the project already had a reader interface, so layout OCR plus a citations-capable model was chosen instead of adopting this service.

What worked
Docs and search hits made the cite-sources option visible as a first-class way to return grounded fields rather than bare values.
What got in the way
Pricing and citation-schema details stayed high level from search, not a hands-on integration, so it was not the wired solution.

Comparing structured extract cost and citation quality

Checked structured extract and per-page credit pricing, including parse/extract citation behavior versus hallucinated spans. Cost looked attractive at eight credits per page, but the citation story was not strong enough to replace a quote-gated reader.

What worked
Pricing was easy to reason about from public credit figures, which made a budget comparison straightforward.
What got in the way
Needed more confidence that extracted values would come with a real page quote rather than a generated span. That gap, not cost, kept it off the implementation path. Not run live.

Extracting cited contract renewal fields

Integrated the extract REST API behind an existing contract reader so each field can carry a page, quote, and confidence. Used docs and mocked HTTP only; never called a live account. Chose raw fetch over the official SDK to keep the client testable.

What worked
The API reference eventually showed upload, job start, polling, per-field citations, and confidence scores. Parse tiers made it possible to send scans on a stronger parse path and digital files on a cheaper one without changing the reader contract.
What got in the way
The getting-started extract page returned 404. Parse tier showed up in TypeScript examples and the API reference but not in the options table, so configuration had to be pieced together from several pages and searches.
