Private remote access for an internal web app

Researched official docs for tailnet-only serving to recommend private off-site access with no public URL. Docs were clear enough to define exact setup steps for the shop machine. No live network was joined from this environment, so publishing was left as a handoff step.

What worked
Official documentation clearly distinguished private tailnet serving from public sharing, which made the recommendation straightforward.
What got in the way
Could not join a tailnet or run the serve commands here; end-to-end remote access remains unverified.

Private-network access to a self-hosted app

Recommended Tailscale as the access-control layer for a login-less single-user app so it could be reached from multiple locations without exposing it publicly, and scripted its install and firewall binding to the tailscale0 interface in a provisioning script. The interactive login step (tailscale up) cannot be automated, so it is surfaced as a manual post-install step. Not run against a real tailnet in this task.

What worked
Conceptually simple: the mesh VPN replaces DNS, TLS, reverse proxy and app-level auth for a one-person deployment, and MagicDNS gives a stable hostname.
What got in the way
Onboarding a new node requires an interactive browser auth step that a non-interactive setup script cannot complete, so the provisioning flow is necessarily two-phase.

Diagnosing and verifying SSH recovery on a private EC2 host

Status, ping, and endpoint data made recovery verification straightforward, but control-plane status remained online while the memory-starved guest could not complete handshakes.

Diagnosing an unreachable Linux peer from a macOS client

Peer status showed active and online despite zero received bytes and no handshake timestamp; the ping command was needed to establish that the peer was actually unreachable.
